Officers with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office have located and arrested an escaped inmate from Carter County, Tennessee. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division sent out an alert on June 30 about 43-year-old Billy Reed Fletcher. According to authorities, Fletcher was spotted leaving the Walmart on Whitehorse Road in Greenville County on June 24. According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, Fletcher ran away from work at the Carter County Jail. The agency said Fletcher was being held for a probation violation. Authorities said Fletcher was serving a prison sentence for attempted aggravated burglary. Officials say Fletcher may be connected to the missing Tennessee man. SLED confirmed that authorities were searching for Fletcher on Wednesday evening, July 3, in the area of Whitehorse Road and Toby Lane in the wooded area next to Long John Silver’s and Walmart on Whitehorse Road, where Fletcher was spotted on June 24. Deputy Carrie Weimer said SLED received a tip that led officers to his location on Sulphur Springs Road in Greenville, South Carolina, on July 4. Video was released of Fletcher’s arrest, which occurred at 8:38 p.m. Thursday. Weimer said Fletcher will be held in the Greenville County Detention Center on a warrant until Carter County officials extradite him. Fletcher has not been granted bail, officials said.
